Gwynn’s Island IV 2026

Back to the sandbar for Labor Day!

We launched at the boat ramp beside the bridge and Henry loves riding the boat in and out of the water. My wife holds the bow and stern lines from the dock and pulls the boat right off the trailer while barely getting the car tires wet.

On the way out we saw a guy in a paramotor heading north. Hard to see, but he’s in the lower set of clouds.

After getting our tent set up we went for an adventure around the sandbar. Someone must have lost their vape so someone built a little table for it. At first I thought someone had buried a dog or something! That’s our tent over on the Chesapeake Bay side. We thought we’d try over there since last time had so much seaweed. But it ended up being rougher so we moved back.

At the flag pole at the southern end of the island. I’m not sure if the flag is at half staff for Dolly Parton or 9/11. But Henry loves reading the books her foundation sends out!

Along the way we found some plastic trash, balloons, a toy tire, beach toy, and two pairs of flip flops!

Next Henry wanted to be buried in the sand.

Tons of boats. The neighbors set up two pop up tents and started grilling hotdogs and hamburgers. They gave us some hotdogs and cookies since we were getting blasted by the smoke and Henry had a great time playing with their kids.

Heading home with a 2hp two stroke Yamaha. Don’t I have a 2hp  four stroke Honda you ask? Well one coworker gave another coworker his old Cape Dory Typhoon that hadn’t been used in nearly a decade. He needed to move it over to his house so I lent him my Honda. Unfortunately I couldn’t retrieve my motor in time for Labor Day, so I grabbed this old Yamaha out of the shop and gave it a try. It hasn’t been run in over 5 years but it ran like a champ after getting it going the day before. It is similar to the British Seagull I had in that the prop doesn’t idle so you need to be ready to go when you start it up.
